THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION IS BASED ON THE MOST CURRENT DATA PROVIDED TO NOAA. - 10 March
Activities . Pumping operations were started at 0800. Morning overflight observations at
high tide noted considerable sheen between Outerbridge crossing and the Goethel's Bridge.
Contractor was directed to continue skimmer operations and to change dirty sorbent booms.
. Afternoon overflight observations one hour before low tide noted, again, improvement.
Very little sheen was observed at Ward Point Bend among large rafts of water fowl
(estimated at 10,000 birds). This air observation was confirmed by NJ DEP observers on a
NJ State Police boat. This craft transited the Kill, through Ward Point Bend and across
Raritan Bay to Keyport, NJ. Other large rafts of water fowl were observed in Raritan Bay
in areas without sheen. . Pumping operations were suspended at 1515 hours and the full
barge receiving oil was replaced with an empty one. . Personnel on-scene: Gary Ott
Released: Dean Dale 11 March Activities . Mornings overflight showed no oil in Raritan
Bay, on sheen between Tuft's Point and the Goethal's Bridge. The area of wrecks call the
"Boneyard" is still the heaviest hit area. Very light sheen still visible around Pralls
Island. The Spring bird migration seems to be arriving. Thousands of water fowl were
observed in Raritan Bay. Plan is to maintain sorbent boom and sweep. Skimmers not in use
today, however they are being kept on stand-by. . Barge offloading ceased last night due
to suspected leakage and other safety issues. Approximately 19,000 barrels of product
were offloaded filling up a 24,000 barrel barge. In other words. they also got 5,000
barrels of water. The crack is believed to be mid-ships near #3 port tank. Divers were
scheduled for an inspection dive at slack water today (about 1600). . Plan for Tomorrow:
Brief returning Agency personnel on weekend activites. Monitor oil locations. . Personnel
