Mystery Spill: John U. Lloyd State Park, Florida
SSC Evening Report
Friday, 12 August 2000

Situation:
FLDEP conducted a snorkeling survey this morning along John U. Lloyd State Park. (JULSP) A
report giving the details of the findings will be provided by FLDEP later. FLDEP talked
and visited with the JULSP manager to ensure no new problems had occurred. FLDEP helped
the park establish tarball cleaning stations at the park and provided a supply of tarball
information sheets to be handed out to park visitors. FLDEP planned to also talk with
lifeguards along affected beaches to ensure they could address public concerns of beach
goers and swimmers that might come in contact with tarballs.

NOAA Activities: 8/11/00
The NOAA SSC met with FLDEP this morning to discuss outstanding cleanup issues and
submerged oil issues. A report was prepared to provide the Unified Command with some
background on previous submerged oil problems and possible response considerations. The
SSC was briefed by the Great Lakes SSC regarding a tarball survey being conducted by NOAA
as a small science project outside the response.

NOAA DAC reported that they are continuing to follow the situation closely off-site,
collecting and evaluating available data, and coordinating with reeponse and co-Trustees.
These activities are all within the pre-assessment or "Initiation" activities for NRDA.
They have not yet made the decision to conduct a formal NRDA.

NOAA Planned Activities: 8/13/00
No activities are planned for tomorrow unless reports of new and significant reoiling are
received. The SSC will standby locally. The Coast Guard will have an operations meeting
Monday morning to discuss future plans.
