THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION IS BASED ON THE MOST CURRENT DATA PROVIDED TO NOAA. OVERFLIGHTS
AND SHORELINE SURVEYS One overflight was performed by Ken Barton and Paulene Roberts of
NOAA and Elliott Taylor from Greenhill. The purpose of the flight was to conduct
preliminary shoreline mapping of oil impacts on Timbalier, Brush, Casse-tete, and Calumet
Islands. These efforts were a continuation of yesterday's mapping activities. The only
oiling observed was in very small patches of lightly oiled Spartina grass along the marsh
edge in isolated locations on Timbalier and Casse-tete Islands. No oil or sheen was seen
in the water around any of the islands surveyed. Oil and sheen are still evident around
E. Timbalier Island although the overflight provided only a cursory glance. Very little
sheen was observed around the well and in the waters of Timbalier Bay. SITUATION UPDATE
Work efforts today focused on cleanup of the oil along E. Timbalier Island. SHORELINE
SURVEY UPDATE Shoreline survey teams made up of the various resource agencies went out
in the field today to conduct detailed shoreline assesment on E. Timbalier Island. Using
segmented shoreline maps and specific descriptions of oiled locations developed after
yesterday's survey operations the teams examined the areas identified as requiring further
discussion. The teams made cleanup recommendations for these areas. OTHER ACTIVITIES
The morning planning meeting was held at the LUMCON facility to discuss, plan, and execute
the shoreline survey activities. Weather, tides, and detailed shoreline maps were provided
by NOAA. FUTURE ACTIVITIES Shoreline survey teams will continue their field operations
tomorrow. PERSONNEL ON-SCENE Ken Barton Paulene Roberts Jeff Dahlin Joe
