Summary
Gulf of Mexico, 57 miles SE of Galveston, Texas

Summary |
| Posting Date |
1990-Jun-25 |
THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION IS BASED ON THE MOST CURRENT DATA PROVIDED TO NOAA. - The
previous two days of overflights (both SLAR and visual) have indicated very little
floating sheens remain in the Gulf of Mexico from the M/V Mega Borg. Although the oil has
not been observed, we believe that it is still there in the form of tarballs. Previous
experience has shown that the detection of tarballs from aerial observations is almost
impossible. The FOSC has released the NOAA scientific support team pending any further
developments. The NOAA command post phone lines in Galveston have been disconnected and
the support team is returning to Seattle. Any questions concerning this spill can be
directed to the SSC on watch at 206-526-6317. end of message
