HOMER: (Whitney) Situation: Cleanup continues. Poor weather again prevented
the commencement of Inipol application at the Barren Islands. Exxon decided to
bring the Inipol LCM back to Homer for more outfitting. It will return return
to the outer coast in the morning and attempt to begin Inipol application on E.
Chugach Island, since bad weather is predicted around the Barrens for the next
several days. Developed preliminary list of second priority sites for the
application of Inipol such that after the first priority sites are hit any
remaining Inipol can be applied to these second order sites.
Plans for tomorrow: Fly with Exxon to continue to stake out the bioremediation
areas; ISCC meeting to compile comments to ADM Yost and finalize second priority
Inipol sites.
KODIAK: (Talbott) Situation: Cleanup continues with 19 crews in the field. All
cleanup inprogress is currently type A as the type B warm water wash operations
have been suspended. Type B hot water wash and type B bioremediation programs
are currently being reviewed by Exxon and the Kodiak ISCC. LANDA hot water wash
equipment will be available in Kodiak on August 15 and it is anticipated that
the suspended type B operations on Shuyak Island will be resumed with this
equipment as soon as it can be deployed to the field. Weather continues to be a
problem in the area. Flights/Beach Surveys: USCG conducted a demobilization
inspection survey of sub units K06-21 through K06-23 on the Western side of
Kodiak Island. Final approval on these beaches is pending until Exxon removes
the cleanup debris on the beach.
