Oil remobilization with SW winds

Bayou Perot, LA
Subject Oil remobilization with SW winds
Posting Date 2007-Feb-13

The winds changed this morning to SW at 16-18 mph with gusts up to 28 mph. The water
levels in the spill area also increased by about 1 foot. Thus, a lot of the oil that was
stranded on mud flats has been remobilized. The winds have pushed the oil along the
western shore of Bayou Perot into the bayou, creating large areas of silver to rainbow
sheens and areas of yellow oil that have escaped the containment boom placed along the
shoreline. This photo shows the airboat staging area. Note the absence of exposed flats,
the yellow oil escaping the boom, and the extensive sheens bleeding from the shoreline.
