NOAA Office of Response and Restoration report for 9/26/05
Hurricane Katrina
* The U.S. Coast Guard and NOAA Response Teams that were evacuated to Huntsville,
Alabama returned to Baton Rouge yesterday morning. Once the National Weather Service
forecast showed the areas to be tornado-free, NOAA personnel conducted C-130 and
helicopter overflights along the Katrina and Rita affected areas. Overflight information
and associated graphics will become available today.
* No update on confirmed spills today. There remain 378 National Response Center
pollution reports for the region. This total includes 5 major and 5 medium spill cases.
* The Mobile team continues coordinating with EPA and U.S. Coast Guard on vessel
salvage activities. Field work over the weekend was deferred due to storm surge,
localized flooding and the potential for tornados.
